What’s changing with SFUSD’s school assignment system?
A neighborhood-based elementary assignment system is planned for 2028–29. What does that mean for Midtown Terrace?
On October 13, the SFUSD Board of Education voted to move toward a neighborhood-based elementary school assignment system. The district says nothing changes immediately; it is developing the policy and attendance boundaries for a future rollout.
That raises a local question: how might the new system affect families in Midtown Terrace and Forest Knolls, including Clarendon Elementary, which is close to both neighborhoods? The answer is not settled yet. The assignment boundaries and final policy details still need to be worked out.
For homeowners, school access can be one of many factors families consider when choosing where to live. It’s too early to say what this change will mean for any specific address or for home values. I’ll follow the district’s updates and share what becomes clear.
